More patent problems for the Nintendo Wii
The Nintendo Wii already has lawsuits filed against it for the design of the controller, and now it’s facing another from a US based firm, Hillcrest Labs. Hillcrest labs have filed for patent infringement on behalf of Nintendo in the USA.
The alleged patent infringement revolves around a handheld 3D pointing controller, with a navigation interface that controls information on a television screen.
Hillcrest claim they have 29 different patents about television interaction:
While Hillcrest Labs has a great deal of respect for Nintendo and the Wii, Hillcrest Labs believes that Nintendo is in clear violation of its patents and has taken this action to protect its intellectual property rights.
Charlie Scibetta from Nintendo responded to the allegations:
We have not been served with any lawsuit or other action by Hillcrest and therefore have no comment.
The success of the Nintendo Wii has led to it being a target for anyone looking to cash in on its success.
