Nintendo don’t know if they’ll meet demand for the Wii
Demand for the Wii is strong on both sides of the Atlantic, so much so that Nintendo America are still unsure if they’ll be able to meet the demand for their Wii console this Christmas and beyond into next year.
Cammie Dunaway is the vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo America, and she was asked whether Nintendo would be able to meet the demand for the Wii in 2009. She answered:
You know, it’s anybody’s guess. None of us know what the ceiling of the demand is.
Although she was careful to mention how the Nintendo Wii is outselling the PS2 at the same point in its life.
When we look at how we’re doing in an equivalent period to, say, PS2, we’re still outselling that at 22 months.
One thing she was also keen to mention is that Nintendo were hoping to ensure more stock was available this Christmas, as the demand increases in the run up to December.
We’re going to have a lot of product in the marketplace this holiday - 50% more Wii consoles than last holiday.
Finally she spoke about the news that the Wii will receive GameCube ports in Japan.
We did have no announcements today, but we were not trying to announce the full lineup of 2009’s first half. There will be more news to come.
