Nintendo Wii HD?

This week Nintendo announced the new Nintendo DS, with its larger screens, inbuilt camera and MP3 player technology. With this news, attention turns to the Nintendo Wii and the storage problems the console faces. Will this mean a new Nintendo Wii being announced soon, as the rumours of a Wii HD have been doing the rounds?

Rumours are abound that we’ll see a Wii HD on shelves by 2011. The new Wii model (which will come, it’s just a matter of when) is believed to feature improved graphic capacity and an increased storage capacity. It will also play all of the existing Wii games.

The big question is though, if the Wii comes equipped with larger capacity and better graphics, will it be pitched head-to-head with its rivals, the Xbox 360 and the PS3? Currently the Wii has managed to infiltrate many different gamer markets, but hardcore gamers who still prefer their 360 and their PS3 have so far shunned the Wii as a non serious games console.

If the Wii HD comes out ‘beefed up’, it could prove the final nail in the coffin for the supposedly ‘superior’ games consoles who to date haven’t considered the Wii a threat, despite the fact that the Wii has outsold them consistently.
