Nintendo Wii is two years old!
It seems like only yesterday that the Nintendo Wii was born, but November 19th marked the second birthday of the US release of the console, making the Wii two years old.
Awwww.
In that time however the Wii has gone a long way and done many things, including give its technologically and graphically superior rivals, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, a good hiding in the sales charts.
Hot on the heels of the release of the PS3, there weren’t too many high hopes for the strangely named Wii when it launched, with pundits, gamers and customers all predicted the PlayStation 3 would be the console to own, much as Sony had dominated the console wars for the last two generations, with the PSOne and the PS2.
They were all wrong though. The Wii went from strength to strength, disappearing from shelves as fast as it was added to them. Last Christmas saw the console sell out everywhere, and this year looks like being the same story.
With the success of Wii Sports and Wii Fit, the console appealed to markets that the Xbox 360 and PS3 could only dream of, making it the best selling, must have console of the last two years.
Happy birthday Wii, you’ve proved us all wrong.
