No price drop for the Nintendo Wii before Christmas
If you’ve been holding off on buying a Nintendo Wii for Christmas in the hope that Nintendo are going to drop the price after the movie by Microsoft, you may as well buy one now. Nintendo have announced, that despite Microsoft dropping the price of their Xbox 360, they will not be cutting the price of the Wii before Christmas
David Yarnton is the general manager for Nintendo UK and he stated in an interview with MCV, the leading video games and electronics news press, that the Wii will not be reduced in price before Christmas.
In terms of Nintendo’s business, we feel that Wii and Nintendo DS already represent great value for money.
This combined with our focus on market expansion and bringing people of all ages to our products through making them smile and helping to enrich their lives means that we currently see no need to drop the price on either of our formats this year.
It was thought that Nintendo might follow suit after Microsoft’s aggressive (or some might say desperate) price cut of their 360 which saw their console priced £50 cheaper than the Wii. However Nintendo clearly feels that their console’s success is due to its unique gameplay and software titles, rather than the fact that it has always been the cheapest console.
It isn’t the cheapest anymore, and it’s still outselling the other two.
