Sony feel the pressure of Nintendo’s increased profit forecast
Sony’s PlayStation 3 is getting a serious mauling from Nintendo’s Wii console in terms of sales across the world, and things aren’t going to get any better for the Japanese technology giant. Nintendo have just announced its increased profits forecast, which shows that consumers aren’t troubled by the economic downturn when it comes to buying games consoles, and that consumers are favouring Nintendo products over Sony’s.
Although not perceived by Microsoft as a competitor, the Nintendo Wii has far outsold the Xbox 360, as well as the PlayStation 3. In addition to that, the Nintendo DS Lite is leading the way over the PlayStation Portable (PSP).
As Christmas approaches, Nintendo has announced that it expects to sell 26.5 million Nintendo Wii consoles, which is 6% higher than their previous forecast, in the year ending in March.
This increased forecast from Nintendo has heaped further pressure on Microsoft and Sony. They may not see the Nintendo Wii as a competitor to their consoles, but the video games buying public certainly do, and it looks like the Wii is only going to get stronger.
