Steve Wozniak predicts the end for the iPod
The iPod has been the undisputed king of the MP3 players market for some years now, fighting off challenges from every corner (including the all-powerful Microsoft). However the end may be in sight for Apple’s groundbreaking MP3 player; and the omens of doom don’t come lightly either as it’s the Apple co-founder who’s sounding the death-knell.
In an interview with the Telegraph, the co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, stated he expects the iPod to die at some point in the not too distant future.
The iPod has sort of lived a long life at number one. Things like, that if you look back to transistor radios and Walkmans, they kind of die out after a while.
It’s kind of like everyone has got one or two or three. You get to a point when they are on display everywhere, they get real cheap and they are not selling as much.
In addition to his comments on the iPod, Steve Wozniak also condemned Apple for their culture of keeping every closed in terms of development, especially in comparison to Google with the Android OS.
Consumers aren’t getting all they want when companies are very proprietary and lock their products down. I would like to write some more powerful apps than what you’re allowed.
Obviously there’s always light with the dark, and Steve Wozniak did hint towards a future product from Apple… the iWatch. Keep your eyes peeled for that one.
