The Wippit has bolted
Finding websites to download music has never really been that difficult, especially since major online players such as Amazon and Tesco have recently entered the MP3 download arena, but renewed competition from the Internet giants and the ever present Alpha male website iTunes has caused another casualty.
Wippit was an Internet pioneer in the field of music and MP3 downloads, launching way back in 2001. Wippit had deals with every major record label to legally offer their tracks for download, and was established by entrepreneur Paul Myers.
Now however Wippit has been forced to close its doors for good due to a fiercely competitive online marketplace in the field of MP3 and digital downloads.
Wippit stated on its website:
Wippit has closed. After eight years of pushing the digital boundaries, Wippit can no longer compete in the current market climate. Thank you to everyone that has supported us over the years and apologies to those that will miss us.
This comes at a bad time for Wippit because the website forged a deal with ITN Source only last year to use its video content.
