Wii Fit branded gimmick by Microsoft

The Nintendo Wii may be outselling the PS3 3-1 in Japan, and has almost sold the worldwide the same as the PS3 and the Xbox 360 PUT TOGETHER, but Microsoft are still intent on trying to play down the console as a competitor.

David Gosen is a Microsoft exec, who used to be with Nintendo himself. He’s taken a swipe at Nintendo’s best selling peripheral the Nintendo Wii Fit, by branding it a gimmick.

We’ve seen some research that says 60 per cent of people who bought a Wii Fit play it once and don’t play it again.

Now he may well have a point there, but his comments do once again come across as sour grapes from a company whose technologically superior console, the Xbox 360, is getting universally trounced by the ‘gimmicky’ Nintendo Wii in worldwide sales.

Even if players do give up on the Wii Fit, that doesn’t mean they’ll suddenly convert into Xbox users and rush out to buy a shooter game. Perhaps Microsoft should concentrate on marketing their own console and shouting about its strengths, rather than rubbishing Nintendo’s.
