As if the Nintendo Wii needed another string to its bow, it’s now becoming a phone as well. Nintendo has revealed the news of the Nintendo phone this week with the announcement of Wii Speak. Wii Speak is a VoIP phone (which comes with ‘Animal Crossing: City Folks’ for some reason) and it allows users to talk with up to four other people in different locations.

Satoru Iwata, the Nintendo president, stated about Wii Speak:

Wii Speak can connect up to four individual locations, not just four individuals. Even when you are playing with your friends in far away places, you can enjoy chatting with them while playing Animal Crossing together as if they are sitting next to you.

You don’t have to play Animal Crossing just to use Wii Speak however, you can just use a Wii Speak channel to talk to your friends.

You will need to retrieve a code from the Animal Crossing game though in order to chat with your friends.
