The Samsung YP-K3 is a product of clever thinking, master craftsmanship and a desire to impress! To say that it's simply a younger, less talented brother of the massively successful YP-K5 simply isn't true.

We would best describe the Samsung YP-K3 as an evolutionary product of everything audiophiles have come to love about digital audio players. Compared to other MP3 players in its league, it is a clear head and shoulders height above anything we've seen.

Samsung seem to have looked at their last 3-4 flagship digital audio creations, picked the best features, lost the worse features and combined everything that we have come to love about digital music into the beautiful creation that is the YP-K3.

Size: We all know that space is a real premium in all pockets. Whilst the YP-K5 was a little bulky to carry around all the time, the YP-K3 has lost the sliding speaker and about another 5 or 6mm. It's about as thin as an iPod Nano, slightly thinner than the YP-Z5 and ever so slightly taller ű this is however to make room for the rather impressive 1.8ö screen.

Screen: The screen is a 1.8 OLED full colour display. Photo definitions are staggeringly clear, crisp and sharp. Colour definition and screen clarity verges on breath taking to a point you could almost be fooled into thinking you were looking at a screen much larger in size. The display during regular (non photo viewing mode) use is cleverly designed to give excellent clarity while at the same time minimising battery wastage.

User interface (UI): The Samsung YP-K3 has an almost glass like looking front fascia. Instead of buttons, Samsung have opted for a luminous touch pad style control panel which is incredibly easy to use and highly responsive. The UI is very well designed, easy to navigate and allows quick, instant access to whatever you want to listen to in your music library. It also allows easy to access to your photo albums, the FM radio or any of the other settings.

FM Radio: Unlike the European version of the Samsung YP-Z5, the YP-K3 incorporates a handy FM Tuner so even when you're slightly bored with your own music collection, you can simply tune into your favourite radio station or showŕ. Never miss Westwood again!

Sound & Earphones: The earphones supplied aren't great, but they're decent enough. Whilst they don't show you just how excellent the sound production quality of the YP-K3 is, they are still pretty impressive. We'd probably recommend the relatively inexpensive Sennheiser CX300 earphones to compliment the mind blowing sound this MP3 player is capable of producing.

Battery: Up to a staggering 25 hours battery life. Please note that battery performance varies according to what you're using the MP3 player for.

Other cool features: The Samsung YP-K3 is loaded with features, including an FM radio, an Alarm clock, a sleep timer and a photo viewer.

Our verdict: The beauty of the Samsung YP-K3 mp3 player is breath-taking! It is everything the iPod Nano wishes it could be! It's super-slim, has an amazingly bright screen and easy to use interface. It also includes an FM tuner, photo viewer function and a staggering battery life of up to 25 hours. The YP-K3 clearly demonstrates that Samsung have thought about what people want and need in their MP3 player.
